On Blaise Pascal steps Friday, March 27th: visiting old Clermont
We left school at 9 a. m, and first we went to « Rue du Port » to visit the church « Notre Dame du Port ». This church was built in 1250, it has a Romanesque architecture. It's a church which was renovated in the 21st century. Then we walked in the « Rue des nobles » where we saw a private mansion built in the 17th century. It was built with Volvic stones. We went to the « Place du terrail » with a fountain in the middle which dates back to 1865.There is a private mansion which belonged to Jean Savaron. After, we caught sight of the Jesuites' school. At 10:30 a. m, we visited the old school Blaise Pascal and we recited the thoughts of Blaise Pascal in the principal yard. At 10:50 a. m, we went to the square where there used to be Pascal's old home. The lines on the pavement show the outlines of the house. Then around 11 a. m, we went to the first yard of the restaurant named the 15 13 which used to be the private mansion owned by Savaron. At 11:15 a. m, we went to the cathedral of Clermont. It was built in the 13th century. It has a gothic architecture. The decoration of the front disappeared during the French revolution. Then in two groups we went to the « Tour de la Bayette » from where we had a magnificent view of Clermont.
